How To Start Being A More Positive Person

How To Start Being A More Positive Person

A positive mindset equals a positive life! Easier said than done, am I right?!

Some people are naturally positive, uplifting, and see the good in everything. But, for those of us who haven't learned this skill early on, it can be hard to keep a positive mindset.

I spent time talking to Henry G of The Positive Mindset Podcast, who shared some great insight into how to have a positive mindset and use it to make changes in your life and reach your goals.

What is a positive mindset

Think of a positive mindset as the thought, the energy, the fire you put into action.

A lot of times people think "happy" when they think of a positive mindset, but Henry says happy and positive are not necessarily the same thing.

He explained it in such a great way.

Think of the mind as a roadmap, and there are two directions: right, which is higher frequency, uplifts everything and everyone, makes every situation beneficial, and left, which is a win-lose situation, takes away, brings people down.

A positive mindset is one that defaults to the path that uplifts others.

It doesn't mean you won't be sad or go through hard times, but if you have a positive mindset, you'll be able to work through it in a way that helps everyone around you, which will help you in turn.

Step Away From Those Who Bring You Down

Surrounding yourself with people who support you, uplift you, inspire you, etc. is important for so many reasons.

In order to help develop a positive mindset and keep it going, you can't be around people who bring you down or are negative all the time. If people are really bringing you down and you can't help them, you might need to think about cutting them out for a little bit. Maybe even just create space from having them be a big part in your world.

This can be hard but one thing I know for sure is that you have to put yourself first and do what's best and true for you.

Find Gratitude In Every Situation

Let's be honest, life is messy. We're going to get frustrated, annoyed, angry, and sad.

In having a positive mindset, it's important to find gratitude in every situation, even in the things that annoy us.

Choose it as an opportunity to elevate yourself to a higher frequency.
Think about being the example. Henry says it's the easiest way to elevate ourselves.

Set your intentions

It's key that you set your intention for your energy every day. In the mornings, think about your day, what you want to do, and most importantly, what you're thankful for.

Henry also suggests something he calls "on the spot coaching." This is where you rethink your mindset on the spot in times of frustration.

For example, if the Starbucks drive-through line is really long, in your moment of annoyance, instead think about how grateful you are to be able to treat yourself to a latte.

Self-coaching on the spot is work, but will help keep your mindset positive.

Shift your perspective

First, let's determine the difference between mindset and perspective. Henry sees mindset as action and how you process thoughts.

He sees perspective as how you view things. They are one in the same and you can't have one without the other.

In hard times or frustrating situations, you might need to work on changing your perspective.

Choose to see the situation in a more positive light (back to our Starbucks example). It's also good to seek advice from people around you. We forget how much our neighbors and loves ones might know just the thing to say to ease our minds.

Text: It's Important to Always Ask How Can I Give More?

Don't be afraid to ask for help

Asking for help is not a bad thing. Go for it, just ask!

Henry suggests thinking about who you're approaching and make sure your message to them is on the same level in regards to effort.

So, put effort into your questions. Invest what you want out of it, in it. For example, if you want a one-sentence reply, ask a one-sentence question.

In conclusion, it's important to remember to always ask

How can I give more?

It's so easy to think "what can I get?" but it comes down to what you give. Henry says doing so forces you to succeed on a higher level.

"When you're not willing to give up on that one piece of energy of what you want to be, what you want to do, the rest will fall in line," said Henry. "You'll be content on the inside and be happy with where you are and how you're experiencing the world."
